Module 10: The Letter Pp- Language Arts K - Course Guide
Module Overview:
In this module, learners will focus on the letter Pp, learning to identify its sound and form it correctly using fine motor skills and proper mouth formation. They will apply phonemic awareness by segmenting words and creating rhyming words from short-i word families. Learners will also decode words using their understanding of letter-sound relationships while reading a decodable book with fluency. Throughout the module, learners will expand their vocabulary, recognize high-frequency words like “said,” “is,” and “to,” and distinguish sentences with alliteration. Comprehension skills are strengthened as learners identify the main idea and use a writing web to describe characters and settings in stories. This integrated approach supports learners in developing early reading and writing skills through meaningful connections.

Learning Coach Notes:
| Lesson # | Lesson Title | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10.1 Letter Pp | Learners will learn the letter Pp this week. As your learner begins practicing the pronunciation of this sound, be sure they are not adding an ending sound onto the phoneme. It is common for this sound to be incorrectly pronounced “puh.” Remind your learner that this is an unvoiced sound. Only air should be escaping to produce the sound. |
| 2 | 10.2 Letter Pp | Your learner will continue practicing the letter Pp and will learn how to segment words. Segmenting is an auditory skill that can be practiced anywhere! Reinforce this skill by saying words throughout the day for your child to segment. Your learner will also listen to an alliteration book. Encourage your child to play with the /p/ phoneme and think up other examples of alliteration. |
| 3 | 10.3 Letter Pp | As your learner continues to practice skills this week, watch how well they can complete the interactive activities on their own. This gives you insight into their mastery of the skills. If your learner is struggling, provide extra time and repeated practice with the skills in the lesson. In this lesson, students will use higher-order thinking to identify the main idea in a story. This takes much practice. Encourage your learner to tell you the main idea in movies and familiar books to help them develop this skill. |
| 4 | 10.4 Letter Pp | Students will continue to practice their new skills this week. As your learner works with the alliteration story again, encourage independence in identifying examples. On the Play with Language page, your learner will practice building words in two different word families by listening to the sounds. If your child struggles with any activity, encourage repeated practice. |
| 5 | 10.5 Letter Pp | In this lesson, your learner can show you what they learned over the last week. Encourage your child to work independently to demonstrate their knowledge. Have your learner listen to the Letter Pp Book one more time and then read it independently. |
Module Guiding Questions:
When a student starts a lesson ask them questions to check for prior knowledge and understanding and to review concepts being taught. At the end of the lesson ask the questions again to see if their answer changes.
