Learning Coach Notes:
| Lesson # | Lesson Title | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Count to 7! | Invite your learner to look for the number 7 on signs, packages, or in books, and have them trace it in the air when they find it. Provide fun writing tools like crayons, sand, or shaving cream for practicing writing the number. During snack time, ask your learner to count out 7 pieces before eating. Encourage them to gather 7 toys, count them, and check their work. Add movement by having them take 7 steps, clap 7 times, or jump 7 times while counting. You can also play a “Quick Look Game” by placing up to 7 small objects on a tray, showing them briefly, then covering them and asking how many they saw. These simple activities help learners write the number 7, count to 7, and recognize groups of up to 7 objects in everyday routines. |
| 2 | 7 Days of the Week | You can help your learner practice counting the days of the week through simple everyday routines. Start each morning by saying the days of the week together while pointing to a calendar and counting from Sunday to Saturday. Ask questions such as “What day is today?” and “What day comes next?” to build understanding of order. You can make a fun countdown by counting how many days remain until a special event, like a playdate or the weekend. Singing a days-of-the-week song while counting on fingers helps connect language and number order. You can also create daily labels for activities, such as “Monday: library,” and have your learner count the days until the next routine event. These small moments help your learner confidently count and name the seven days of the week. |
| 3 | Identify Groups of Objects | You can help your learner instantly recognize small numbers of objects by turning everyday moments into quick counting games. Show groups of up to 7 objects briefly, such as crayons, snacks, or coins, and ask how many they see without counting one by one. Play matching games where your learner looks at a small group of items and finds another group with the same number. When reading books or playing with toys, pause to have your learner name the number they see right away. You can also use dice or dominoes, asking your learner to say the number of dots at a glance. These short activities strengthen your learner’s ability to quickly recognize quantities in real-world situations. |
| 4 | Count the Shapes | You can help your learner identify and count shapes by noticing them in everyday surroundings. Look for circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles on signs, toys, and household items, then ask your learner to name each shape and count how many they see, up to 7. Offer simple shape cutouts or puzzle pieces and have your learner sort them by type while counting each group. During playtime, invite your learner to build picture creations using 1 to 7 shapes and then tell how many shapes were used. You can also draw quick shape designs together and have your learner identify the shape names and count the total number. These fun interactions build strong recognition and counting skills through real-life exploration of shapes. |
| 5 | Module 7 Wrap Up | You can help your learner practice counting to 7 throughout daily routines. Count aloud together while climbing up to 7 steps, placing 7 items in a basket, or taking 7 bites of a snack. Encourage your learner to count slowly and point to each object as they say the numbers. Sing short counting songs or chants that go from 1 to 7 to make learning playful and memorable. You can even set small challenges such as finding 7 red items or 7 soft objects around the room. These quick activities help your learner confidently count to 7 with accuracy and enjoyment. |
Module Guiding Questions:
When a student starts a lesson ask them questions to check for prior knowledge and understanding and to review concepts being taught. At the end of the lesson ask the questions again to see if their answer changes.
