Module 17: The Letter Ll- Language Arts K - Course Guide
Module Overview:
In this module, students will focus on the letter Ll, learning to identify its sound and demonstrate the correct letter formation. They will apply their knowledge of letter-sound relationships to decode words and practice reading fluently with the Decodable Book. Students will build their vocabulary by learning new words and recognizing high-frequency words such as look, little, and like. They will also explore alliteration, enhancing their phonemic awareness through playful language activities. As students develop reading comprehension skills, they will use titles, headings, and illustrations to predict and confirm the topic of texts. In writing, they will construct drawings and written responses to tell about the order of events and share a personal reaction, strengthening both sequencing and expressive skills. This module blends phonics, vocabulary, reading strategies, and narrative writing to support comprehensive literacy growth.

Learning Coach Notes:
| Lesson # | Lesson Title | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 17.1 Letter Ll | As students learn a new phoneme today, watch your learner’s mouth formation to ensure correct pronunciation. If your learner struggles making the sound, put a dab of peanut butter or honey right behind their upper teeth. It can help to reinforce the correct tongue placement in producing the /l/ sound. |
| 2 | 17.2 Letter Ll | Today, students will focus on listening for the /l/ phoneme in the middle and end of words. Continue practicing this skill with your learner by saying words with the /l/ phoneme and asking your child to tell you where in the word they hear the phoneme. Students will also learn more about alliteration. Reinforce this skill by saying a word and asking your learner to say another word that begins with the same sound. |
| 3 | 17.3 Letter Ll | Your learner will continue to practice their new skills this week. Encourage your child to answer the questions and complete the interactive activities with as much independence as possible. Extend and reinforce their understanding of alliteration by asking your learner to produce a sentence using alliteration. Model making predictions when you read aloud to your child. Ask questions to prompt your child to practice making predictions as well. |
| 4 | 17.4 Letter Ll | Continue to reinforce your learner’s growing skills of alliteration and making predictions throughout the day. The last activity in this lesson is a writing activity. It may be beneficial to give your learner a break before this activity so that they have stamina to attend to a more difficult task. |
| 5 | 17.5 Letter Ll | Your learner will watch a short review video before demonstrating their understanding of the concepts and skills learned this week. Guide your child through this lesson but refrain from providing answers. Your learner’s teacher will use this lesson to understand how your child is learning. |
