Module Overview:

In this module, students will learn to illustrate the roles of local businesses, identify examples of goods and services provided by the private sector, explain the responsibilities of a business owner, infer the qualities that may be necessary to complete a task and analyze the impact on a community when a business closes. Students will choose a local business and explain how it impacts their community.

1 Local Businesses After completing this lesson, ask your student to describe the role of local businesses and identify their goods and services. If possible have them identify local businesses where they live and the kinds of goods and services they provide.
2 Bosses and Employees After completing this lesson, ask your student to explain the responsibilities of a business owner, if possible have them visit a local business and talk to the owner about their responsibilities.
3 Business Closes After completing this lesson, ask your student to explain the impact on a community when a business closes, ask your student to think about a local business they know of that may have closed and describe its impact.
4 Project: Business Research After completing this lesson, ask your student to explain the rubric requirements and the requirements of the project. When they have finished their project ask them to review their finished product against the rubric requirements to make sure they meet all of the requirements.
