Module Overview:

In this module, students will be introduced to The Swing Family. You will list similarities and differences between the Swing Family and your family. You will also sort words with the short -a- sound, read sight words and write vocabulary words. You will listen to and describe sentences. You will answer questions about The Swing Family and write the first draft of a "Compare and Contrast" paragraph. You will read sentences with sight words, and you will sort complete and incomplete sentences. You will write rhyming words with the short -a- sound and use your sight words to write complete sentences. You will also meet the Ross Family and revise your comparison paragraph. You will also compare the Swing Family and the Ross Family. You will edit your comparison paragraph.

  • Use the sight word flashcards daily with your student. Mix them up, show them the words, and ask them to read the sight word. Next do not show them the word but say the word and ask them to spell the word.
  • During Independent Reading time, after your student finishes reading the book, they chose, ask them to tell you what they read.
  • After reading the story "The Swing Family," ask your student to describe the characters in the story.
