Learning Coach Notes:
| Lesson # | Lesson Title | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 23.1 Letter Kk | As your child learns the new letter and phoneme /k/, spend time practicing the sound to ensure proper pronunciation. Encourage your learner to stand up and kick when practicing the letter, sound, and motion. As your child learns new Words of the Week and spelling words, use the colored squares for a hands-on learning experience. Continue to practice new vocabulary words throughout the week by pointing out when your learner is polite, peaceful, gentle, or proud. |
| 2 | 23.2 Letter Kk | Students will learn two syllable types today. Understanding open and closed syllables gives students skills needed to read many words. As your learner explores reading on their own, point out open and closed syllables to help your child make the learning connection. Students will also learn about adjectives. Remind your learner that adjectives are a part of speech like nouns and verbs. Understanding parts of speech will help your child understand how the English language works. |
| 3 | 23.3 Letter Kk | Today, students will continue learning about the letter Kk, the phoneme /k/, and open syllables. Review the difference between open and closed syllables. Encourage your learner to produce an open-syllable word and a closed-syllable word. Your learner will practice handwriting many words today. This helps develop important fine motor skills. Allow breaks as necessary but be sure your child writes each word independently in their Handwriting Notebook. |
| 4 | 23.4 Letter Kk | The activity to help students get moving is to make fruit kabobs. If this is not an option, students can make fake fruit kabobs out of pipe cleaners (or straws) and pieces of paper as fruit. As your learner builds words with sounds, encourage them to use finger-stretching to help them identify each sound. |
| 5 | 23.5 Letter Kk | Your learner will have a short review video before demonstrating their understanding of the concepts and skills learned this week. Guide your child through this lesson but refrain from providing answers. Your learner’s teacher will use this lesson to understand how well your child is learning. |
