4.1 Little Red | Today, students will be working on words with the Bossy e spelling pattern, reading a folktale, learning about common and proper nouns, and organizing their thoughts to write their own folktale. You can help your learner by pointing out words outside the lesson that follow the Bossy e pattern. You can also read other folktales together or listen to some read aloud. Talk with your child about the lesson or moral of stories as you are reading them.
4.2 Little Red | Students will continue to learn about the long vowel silent e spelling pattern today. They will also be reading two versions of the same fairy tale, writing the rough draft of their folktale, and continuing to practice proper nouns. Encourage your learner to find examples of proper nouns around your home or while you are out in the community today.
4.3 Little Red | Today, students will continue to learn about the long vowel silent e spelling pattern; review folktales, fables, and fairytales; and work on proper nouns. They will also revise the folktale they wrote. Make sure your learner uses the revision checklist to check that they have everything they need in their folktale. They do not need to worry about spelling or other mistakes today. They will correct those tomorrow.
4.4: Little Red | Today, students will continue practicing Bossy e words. You can help at home by reading simple words together and reminding your learner to listen for the long vowel sound that the Bossy e makes. Students are also learning how to compare and contrast two fairy tales. As you read stories together, ask your learner to tell you what is the same and what is different between the characters, settings, or events. To support vocabulary practice, read sentences together and encourage your learner to use clues in the sentence to figure out what the words mean. These small conversations help build strong reading habits and understanding.
4.5 Little Red | Today, your learner will finish their work for the week and take a quiz to show what they learned. Make sure they complete this independently so that their teacher can see what they know. Before your learner takes their spelling test, review their spelling words with them. Give them a word and ask them to spell it. You can find the list of spelling words in the Resources Module of the course. Students will also participate in peer editing to check their writing and make sure it is all correct. Peer editing can be done with a friend or family member. Peer editing gives your learner a chance to share their writing and get constructive feedback before they finalize their published writing piece.
