Module 6: Compare Numbers-Math 2A - Course Guide

Module Overview:

In this module, students will use different ways to make a number, make a number using base-ten blocks, use place-value concepts to represent amounts of tens and ones, and compare two-digit numbers. They will use place-value concepts to represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones, compare three-digit numbers, and understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones.

Learning Coach Notes:

Lesson # Lesson Title Notes
1 Number Structure (Tens and Ones) Ask your student to share with you what they learned about how to make numbers using base-ten blocks.
2 Number Structure (Hundreds)
  • The Number Structure Matching Game worksheet has cut-outs in it. If your student has a workbook, they can find this worksheet by looking at the cut-outs section in the Table of Contents of the workbook.
  • Ask your student to explain what they learned in this lesson.
3 Make Groups of 10s and 1s to Compare Ask your student to describe what they learned about comparing numbers in this lesson.
4 Make Groups of 100s to Compare 3-Digit Numbers In their Math notebook, have your student write and label the sign used to show a number is greater than another number, and write and label the sign used to show a number is lesser than another number.
5 Problem-Solving Strategy: Reasoning The Number Cards Worksheet will be found in the cut-out section of the workbook if your student has a workbook. The cut-out section can be found in the Table of Contents of the workbook.

Module Guiding Questions:

When a student starts a lesson ask them questions to check for prior knowledge and understanding and to review concepts being taught. At the end of the lesson ask the questions again to see if their answer changes.

Lesson Title Question
Number Structure (Tens and Ones)
  1. Can you make a number using base-ten blocks?
Number Structure (Hundreds)
  1. Where are the hundreds, tens, and ones?
Make Groups of 10s and 1s to Compare
  1. Why do we compare numbers?
Make Groups of 100s to Compare 3-Digit Numbers
  1. How can we use place value to compare numbers?
Problem-Solving Strategy: Reasoning
  1. Can I show place values for whole numbers up to 100?

Module Video Questions:

When a student watches a video take time to ask them questions about what they watched. Suggested questions for the videos in this module are listed here. Suggestion: Have the student watch the entire video first all the way through. Then have them watch the video a second time, as they watch it pause the video and ask the questions.
