Module 16: The Letter Gg- Language Arts K - Course Guide

Module Overview:

In this module, students will focus on the letter Gg, learning to identify its sound and practice correct letter formation. They will apply phonics knowledge to decode words and sentences, expanding fluency through the Decodable Book and targeted reading practice. Students will explore new and review vocabulary and work with high-frequency words such as go, get, and good. Comprehension is deepened as students compare and contrast key features in familiar texts and identify alliteration in read-alouds. Through writing and drawing activities, learners will construct sentences to describe their own illustrations, building sentence structure and expressive language. By integrating phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing, this module supports students in becoming more confident, independent readers and writers.

Learning Coach Notes:

Lesson # Lesson Title Notes
1 16.1 Letter Gg This week, students will learn the new letter Gg. The module will teach the hard g sound and not mention the soft g sound to avoid any confusion. As your learner practices producing the /g/ sound, ensure that they are not adding an extra sound to the end. It can be easy to produce the /g/ phoneme as /guh/, but that makes it more difficult to decode words with this sound.
2 16.2 Letter Gg Students will practice counting phonemes in words with colored squares. Students will also read decodable sentences, sentences with words students should be able to read independently. Your learner will start a writing project today and continue using the worksheet during writing lessons later in the week. Keep the worksheet in a safe place.
3 16.3 Letter Gg Your learner will continue practicing skills learned this week. Encourage your child to work independently as they read decodable sentences, build words, and ear spell words. Assist your learner in comparing and contrasting last week’s Module Story with this week’s story. Revisit “The Right Knight” in Module 15 if your learner needs help remembering the story.
4 16.4 Letter Gg Your learner will continue working on the writing project started earlier in the week. Today, your learner will use ear spelling to write one or two sentences about the illustration. Encourage your child to work independently to use ear spelling to write. Tomorrow, your learner will complete the writing project and turn it in.
5 16.5 Letter Gg Your learner will review the letter /g/ sound before demonstrating their understanding of the concepts and skills learned this week. Guide your learner through this lesson but refrain from providing answers. Your child’s teacher will use this lesson to understand how well your child is learning.
