Learning Coach Notes:

Lesson # Lesson Title Notes
1 2.1 Letter Mm This week is all about the letter Mm! While learning a new letter, it is helpful to continue reviewing letter Tt so learning is not lost. While practicing words of the week, also practice letter identification and sounds. Your child will learn how to identify, write, and pronounce the sound for the letter Mm. While out and about ask your child to point out things that start with Mm. Fine motor skills will continue to be practiced.
2 2.2 Letter Mm Continue to practice the /m/ sound throughout the day. When you see or do something that begins with that sound, say “We are having macaroni and cheese for dinner. What sound does macaroni start with?” This helps your child learn to form connections and have continual reinforcement with letter/sound learning. Continue to review the letter Tt as well.
3 2.3 Letter Mm Continue to help your child connect the /m/ sound with objects around you and the words you use daily. As you read aloud to your child, model text-to-self connections by making your own connections with the text. Encourage your child to continue practicing fine motor skills with activities like coloring and drawing, measuring and mixing in the kitchen, and playing with small toys.
4 2.4 Letter Mm Reinforce the skills your child is learning by practicing differentiating between the two sounds learned so far. Tell your child a word that begins with either /m/ or /t/ and have your child identify which sound or letter it starts with. As you read aloud to your child, find the heart words they have learned and point them out. Ask your child questions about stories to help them make text-to-self connections. Encourage your child to use creativity when drawing pictures of a story.
5 2.5 Letter Mm Your child will review the letter /m/ sound before demonstrating an understanding of the concepts and skills learned this week. They will review their high-frequency words, make a connection with a story, and practice their handwriting. Guide your child through this lesson but refrain from providing answers. Your child’s teacher will use this lesson to understand how your child is learning.
