Module Overview:

In this module, your student will learn about the letter Yy. They will practice their sight words (must, new, no) and y words, read the weekly story, and record an oral retell. They will learn about the author and illustrator. They will practice their spelling words (yak, yam, yes, yet) and practice independent reading.

  • As your student reads “My New Yo-Yo” ask them the following question: Why do you think the boy ends up putting his new yo-yo in his pocket? Draw a picture of your favorite part of the story and write about it using your sight words.
  • While your student is practicing writing the letter Yy have them say out loud how they are writing the letter.
  • During Independent Reading time have your Kindergartner read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.
2 25.2 Letter Yy
  • Use the sight word flashcards from this lesson daily with your student. Mix them up, show them the words and ask them to read the sight word. Next do not show them the word, but say the word and ask them to spell the word.
  • During Independent Reading time have your Kindergartner read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.

  • As your student practices writing sight words have them spell the words as they write each letter in the word and then read the word when they are done writing it.
  • During Independent Reading time have your Kindergartner read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.
  • Have your student practice spelling their spelling words, say a word and have them spell it.
4 25.4 Letter Yy
  • Today's writing is a continuation of the paragraph about the book "Jump." Students will put together a concluding sentence for the paragraph.
  • During Independent Reading time have your Kindergartner read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.
5 25.5 Letter Yy Don’t forget to have your student complete their independent reading log and assignment and submit it at the Independent Reading Assignment lesson dropbox. You may have to help them fill it out. Remember to submit their work for the week in the Module 25 Weekly Written Work Letter Yy lesson dropbox.
