Module 25 - Math 1B - Course Guide
In this module, students will determine probabilities based on data. Students will draw lines of symmetry on letters. Students will create animal figures using pattern blocks. Students will recognize a number series by 2's, 5's, and 10's. Students will calculate a number 1 more or 1 less than a given number.
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Blank paper

Learning Coach Notes:
|Lesson #||Lesson Title||Notes|
|1||25.1 Probability||Further, explore probability with your student by doing a simple coin toss. Ask your student what the probability would be of getting heads when you flip a coin. Then flip the coin 10 times and have your student track how many times they get heads and tails.|
|2||25.2 Symmetry||Try this out for fun with your student. Draw a butterfly on white paper, cut it out, and have your student use paint to paint designs on one side of the butterfly. Fold the butterfly in half and open it to see how the paint pattern repeated on the blank side.|
|3||25.3 Creating Figures||Ask your student to name the kinds of shapes that are in pattern blocks.|
|4||25.4 Recognizing Number Series||Gather a group of small objects, either pennies, counters, or small candy. Have your student count those objects by 2's, 5's, and 10's.|
|5||25.5 Calculate the Number||Gather a set of number cards or make some using index cards (write the numbers 0 to 100 on index cards, one number on each card). Mix up the numbers. Show your student 1 number at a time. Have them add 1 more to the number, then have them subtract 1 less from the number. Repeat this multiple times.|
Module Guiding Questions:
When a student starts a lesson ask them questions to check for prior knowledge and understanding and to review concepts being taught. At the end of the lesson ask the questions again to see if their answer changes.

Module Video Questions:
When a student watches a video take time to ask them questions about what they watched. Suggested questions for the videos in this module are listed here. Suggestion: Have the student watch the entire video first all the way through. Then have them watch the video a second time, as they watch it pause the video and ask the questions.
|25.1 Probability||The Marble Bag||
|25.3 Creating Figures||Shape Animals at the Park||
Module Suggested Read Aloud Books:
Take time to read to your student or have them read aloud to you. Read a different book each day. While reading the book point out concepts being taught. You may purchase these books or find them at your local library. Suggested things to discuss while reading the book:
- What is the main idea?
- What are three things new you learned?
- How does this book relate to what you are learning about?
|1||It's Probably Penny||Loreen Leedy||530L|
|2||Bad Luck Brad||Gail Herman||490L|
|3||Reese's Pieces Count By Fives||Jerry Pallotta||AD590L|
|4||Toasty Toes: Counting by Tens||Michael Dahl|
|5||Eggs and Legs: Counting by Twos||Michael Dahl||AD280L|
Take some time to apply what your student is learning to the real world. Suggested outings are below.
