Learning Coach Notes:

Lesson # Lesson Title Notes
1 21.1 Letter Uu Students will learn the last short vowel sound /u/ this week. Spend extra time helping your learner put the sound card in the Sound Book to show that this is the final short vowel sound. Count the short vowel sounds in the Sound Book and review each sound. As your learner is introduced to spelling words, encourage him or her to look for word families among them. Tomorrow, your child will work with spelling-word sorts.
2 21.2 Letter Uu For the introduction page, your learner will need a die and any materials they can use to make the letter U. This could be paper clips, paper squares, blocks, dry cereal, or any other objects you have around . Play the game for as long as their interest allows. Your learner will compare nonfiction texts today. If you have read other nonfiction texts with them recently, extend your child’s learning by asking questions to help your child compare other nonfiction texts. The writing your learner will begin today will be continued later in the week. Be sure to keep the worksheet safe and accessible to use in a later lesson.
3 21.3 Letter Uu Your learner will use their Words of the Week Book to read their new words along with the lesson. Be sure to have your child practice reading the Words of the Week Book each day so that they gain automaticity with the words. To help your learner connect with the Module Story, include them in the laundry duties this week. Encourage your child to participate in the steps of doing the laundry to give them hands-on learning experiences.
4 21.4 Letter Uu Today, your learner will write the story they drew earlier this week. Allow plenty of time for your child to write and consider having them take a break before beginning the writing. Encourage your learner to use ear spelling to write independently.
5 21.5 Letter Uu Today, your learner will have a short review before demonstrating their understanding of the concepts and skills learned this week. Guide your learner through this lesson but refrain from providing answers. Your child’s teacher will use this lesson to understand how well your child is learning.
