Module Overview:

In this module, your student will learn about the letter Uu. They will practice their sight words, spelling words, and Uu words with interactive activities. They will also read the weekly story and record an oral retell. They will learn about short-o and short-u word families.

  • As your student reads “The Four Cubs” ask them the following question: Where do the four cubs go in the story? Draw a picture of your favorite part of the story and write about it using your sight words.
  • While your student is practicing writing the letter Uu have them say out loud how they are writing the letter.
  • During Independent Reading time have your Kindergartner read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.

  • Use the sight word flashcards from this lesson daily with your student. Mix them up, show them the words and ask them to read the sight word. Next do not show them the word, but say the word and ask them to spell the word.
  • During Independent Reading time have your Kindergartner read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.

  • As your student practices writing sight words have them spell the words as they write each letter in the word and then read the word when they are done writing it.
  • During Independent Reading time have your Kindergartner read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.
  • Have your student practice spelling their spelling words, say a word and have them spell it.

5 21.5 Letter Uu and Short u Don’t forget to have your student complete their independent reading log and assignment and submit it at the Independent Reading Assignment lesson dropbox. You may have to help them fill it out. Remember to submit their work for the week in the Module 21 Weekly Written Work Letter Uu lesson dropbox.
