Learning Coach Notes:

Lesson # Lesson Title Notes
1 Place Value in Whole Numbers
  • On index cards, write down 5 different numbers, one on each index card ranging from 1,000-900,000. Flip over one card at a time and have your student identify the place value for each digit in the number.
  • In their Math notebook, have your student define digit and place value.
2 Place Values in Decimals
  • Get out 5 index cards and write down 5 different numbers with decimals to the thousandths place in them. Write one number on each index card. Have your student identify the place value for every digit in each number.
  • In their Math notebook, have your student create a chart showing decimal place value.
3 Place-Value Relationships In their Math notebook, have your student describe the pattern in place value.
4 Exponents In their Math notebook, please have your student explain what exponents are, what powers mean, what a base number is, and the three ways to write exponents.
5 Powers of 10 In their Math notebook, have your student describe how to multiply with powers of 10.
6 Multiplying Decimals with Powers of 10 In their Math notebook, have your student describe how to multiply decimals by powers of 10.
7 Dividing Whole Numbers by Powers of 10 In their Math Notebook, have your student describe the steps involved to divide a whole number by powers of 10.
8 Dividing Decimals by Powers of 10 In their Math notebook, have your student describe how to divide decimals by powers of 10.

Module Guiding Questions:

When a student starts a lesson ask them questions to check for prior knowledge and understanding and to review concepts being taught. At the end of the lesson ask the questions again to see if their answer changes.
