Module 1: The Letter Tt-Language Arts K - Course Guide
Module Overview:
In this module, learners will focus on identifying the letter Tt and its sound. They will practice proper mouth formation to say the /t/ sound and use correct pencil grip to write the uppercase and lowercase Tt. Learners will also identify words that begin with /t/ by listening carefully and recognizing the high-frequency word “a.” To build reading comprehension skills, learners will explore how to read from left to right and top to bottom, and they will work on organizing story events in the correct order. These foundational reading and writing skills support strong early literacy development and help learners become more confident readers and writers.

| 1 | 1.1 Letter Tt | Welcome to your first week in kindergarten! Your child will learn the letter Tt this week and will focus on hearing and producing the correct letter sound. Correcting mispronunciations helps to develop good habits. You will also begin to create a Sound Book. Please keep the Sound Book in a folder so that your child has easy access to it. You will help your child turn an old sock into a puppet to help your child learn how to hold a pencil correctly. Even before formal reading instruction begins, your child should be introduced to books through read-alouds and picture books. This early exposure helps with language acquisition, listening skills, comprehension, and a love for reading. It sets the foundation for literacy by enriching vocabulary and building background knowledge. |
| 2 | 1.2 Letter Tt | Reinforce your child’s learning this week by asking them to think of words that begin with the /t/ sound. Practice making the letter Tt out of clay, pipe cleaners, or ripped pieces of scrap paper. Model simple sentences using the new word of the week, a. Example: I see a tree! Then ask your child to give it a try! Discuss the order of a story using your child’s schedule. Continue daily fine motor practice by having your child draw, color, paint, or play with toys requiring finger strength! |

This can be done in the car, while playing outside, or anytime during the day! Use any materials you have around the house to practice making the letter Tt. | 4 | 1.4 Letter Tt | When reading stories with your learner, have them identify the parts of the book: title, author, and illustrator. Model the direction you read a book in, starting at the top of each page, reading from left to right, and ending at the bottom of the page. |

If your child needs additional practice identifying the letter, identifying the phoneme, or reading the heart word, go back in the module to the previous lesson pages to practice these skills! |

Take some time to apply what your student is learning to the real world. Suggested outings are below.
