Lesson # Lesson Title Notes
22.1 Letter Jj Students will learn the new letter Jj today. Spend extra time with your learner practicing the pronunciation of this phoneme to ensure proper formation and sound production. Use the colored squares to practice the spelling words and new Words of the Week. Encourage your learner to make a prediction about the story prior to reading.  Have them use the title and the picture on the cover to make their prediction. This activates prior knowledge and helps aid in comprehension skills.
22.2 Letter Jj Students will continue to practice the new phoneme /j/ today. Provide additional time at the beginning of the lesson for your learner to explore their creativity with a jungle-themed pretend play time. Encourage your child to identify jungle animals that begin with /j/. The new phonemic awareness skill is deleting phonemes from the beginning of words. Continue to practice this skill throughout the day by giving your learner a word and prompting them to delete the beginning sound. Use words like cat, fin, bit, and gone.
22.3 Letter Jj Check your learner’s pronunciation of the /j/ phoneme and provide coaching as needed. You can reinforce the skill of deleting phonemes by practicing often with your learner as you read together. Help your learner practice ordering events by presenting a familiar activity and asking your child to tell the order of the steps. Encourage your learner to use the words first, next, then, and last.
22.4 Letter Jj Your learner will practice deleting the beginning and ending phonemes in words today. Use the colored squares as a hands-on visual resource to show the phonemes and remove either the beginning or ending sound. Your learner will also practice alliteration and ordering events. Continue to reinforce both skills during everyday activities such as making dinner or setting the table.
22.5 Letter Jj Your learner will have a short review video before demonstrating their understanding of the concepts and skills learned this week. Guide your learner through this lesson but refrain from providing answers. Your child’s teacher will use this lesson to understand how well your child is learning.
