Module Overview:

In this module, you will learn about playing house with Ben and Meg and list things that you do for fun. You will also listen to words with the short -e- sound, read sight words and write vocabulary words. You will identify the subject of a sentence. You will answer comprehension questions about family fun with the Swing Family and write a paragraph about the fun you have with your family. You will also write words with the short -e- sound, use sight words and write sentences with vocabulary words. You will identify the subject of a sentence. You will read informational text about treehouses. You are going to write rhymes with your short -e- words and work on sentence subjects. You will also identify the story setting, and you will edit your paragraph about having fun with your family. You will assess your reading fluency and publish your paragraph about family fun.

1 2.1 Family Fun
  • Use the sight word flashcards daily with your student. Mix them up, show them the words, and ask them to read the sight word. Next do not show them the word but say the word and ask them to spell the word.
  • As your student reads “Playing House” have them write in their Language Arts notebook what happened at the beginning of the story, What happened in the middle of the story and what happened at the end of the story.
  • During Independent Reading time have your student read silently to themselves. Ask them questions about what they read when they are finished.

  • Have your students practice spelling their spelling and sight words each day. Students should spell them correctly when they write. Use the sight word flashcards daily with your student. Mix them up, show them the words, and ask them to read the sight word. Next do not show them the word but say the word and ask them to spell the word.
  • In your student's Language Arts notebook have them write for each of their vocabulary words the following: Definition for the word in their own words, illustration for the word (if possible), synonym or antonym for the word and a sentence using the word.
  • During Independent Reading time have your student read silently to themselves. Ask them questions about what they read when they are finished.

Mix them up, show them the words, and ask them to read the sight word. Next, do not show them the word but say the word and ask them to spell the word.
  • After reading the story: "Playing House," have your student describe their favorite character in their Language Arts Notebook.
