Module Overview:

In this module, students will learn about the letter Ww, its sound, how to recognize it, and how to write it correctly. They will practice using letter-sound knowledge to read and spell words, including short a CVC words and high-frequency words like went, well, and will. Students will also explore closed syllables and build their decoding skills with a Decodable Book. In reading and writing, students will learn new vocabulary, make predictions about nonfiction texts, and use prepositions correctly in sentences. They will also create an informative piece of writing by drawing and writing about a topic, supplying key details to explain their ideas.

1 19.1 Letter Ww This week, students will learn the new letter Ww and the new phoneme /w/. Spend extra time on the pronunciation of the phoneme to ensure that your learner is able to produce the correct sound. Your learner will begin working with spelling words this semester. The words are in the CVC spelling pattern and will reinforce letters and sounds already learned. 
2 19.2 Letter Ww Students will learn the closed syllable type today. Understanding syllable types will help your learner read. Reinforce your learner’s understanding of closed syllables by naming closed syllables when reading together.
3 19.3 Letter Ww In this lesson, students will continue to practice the skills learned this week using interactive and offline activities. Provide support as your learner practices these skills. Your learner will explore how to use a picture dictionary. To extend this concept, explore children’s picture dictionaries online before the lesson to show them other examples.  
4 19.4 Letter Ww Students will continue to practice the skills learned this week. Extend learning about closed syllables by asking your learner to produce some of these syllables. Encourage your learner to tell you detailed predictions about nonfiction texts by asking prompting questions. Keep the writing worksheet your learner completes today to use for proofreading practice tomorrow. 
5 19.5 Letter Ww Your learner will have a short review video before demonstrating their understanding of the concepts and skills learned this week. Guide your child through this lesson but refrain from providing answers. Your learner’s teacher will use this lesson to understand how well your child is learning.
