Learning Coach Notes:
| Lesson # | Lesson Title | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 4.1 Letter Ff | Reinforce the new letter of the week with your learner during different times throughout the day. Hold up or point to an object and ask your child if it begins with the /f/ sound. Vocabulary words are introduced for the first time this week. Use these words as often as you can and encourage your learner to do the same. Help your child make connections with the vocabulary words to enhance understanding. If your child has used swimming flippers, remind them to recall what they felt like. Compare where you live to the country. Is it similar or different? Have your learner touch something that is silky. Show your child a video about fireflies or help them remember a time when they saw them at night in the summer. |
| 2 | 4.2 Letter Ff | Say two words and have your learner tell you the word that begins with the /f/ phoneme. Continue to use the four new vocabulary words throughout the day to reinforce the meaning of these new words. Discuss story characters in your learner’s favorite movie or book. Ask what they like about the character. As you read to your child, point out the periods at the end of sentences. Ask your child to find a period on each page as you read. |
| 3 | 4.3 Letter Ff | Continue to reinforce language arts learning by asking your learner for a word that starts with /f/. If your child struggles, say two words and have your child choose the word that begins with /f/. Use nonsense words as a way for your learner to listen to and identify sounds. Say a nonsense word that begins with /f/ and then ask the child to give you one. Practice using the Words of the Week and vocabulary in daily activities. Discuss story characters and have your learner describe what kind of character he or she likes the most. As your child practices handwriting, provide encouragement. Working fine motor muscles can be a challenging task. |
| 4 | 4.4 Letter Ff | Continue to reinforce the skills your learner is developing this week. Work together to think of as many words as you can that begin with the /f/ phoneme. Practice writing the letter Ff using multiple colors of crayons. Continue to discuss story characters in books and movies. After reading a book together, go on a hunt for the periods at the end of the sentences. Ask your learner to point out each one! Use the vocabulary words throughout the day to help your learner make connections with the words. |
| 5 | 4.5 Letter Ff | Your learner will apply what they have learned this week in this lesson. Provide direction and assistance as necessary, but use this lesson primarily to check your child’s understanding of this week’s skills and concepts. Your learner will review the letter Ff, beginning sounds, heart words, vocabulary words, and comprehension skills. Encourage your child to take time drawing their story with characters that begin with the letter Ff. Check their understanding as the story is described. Label the story characters your child drew with words that begin with the letter Ff. |
