Module Overview:

In this module, learners build reading and language skills by using vocabulary words, demonstrating fluency with grade-level text, and citing text evidence to answer comprehension questions. They apply phonics patterns, syllable types, and affixes to support reading development. In writing, learners plan, draft, revise, edit, and publish a narrative piece using a graphic organizer and editing strategies. They strengthen grammar and conventions by applying commas correctly in sentences and revising writing for accuracy.

1	36.1: Maria’s Goodbye	When your learner reviews how to use a dictionary and put words in alphabetical order, encourage them to use a physical or digital dictionary for extra practice. As your learner prepares for their final personal narrative, encourage them to include as many details in the graphic organizer as they can. This will help their writing process go more smoothly.
2	36.2 Maria’s Goodbye	Encourage your learner to expand their review of course material this week. This can include using vocabulary words in conversation or in writing, or looking for the vocabulary words in texts they are reading. Students will begin to write their rough draft for their narrative. Encourage your learner to review their graphic organizer before writing to plan the order of their writing.
3	36.3 Maria’s Goodbye	Today, students will practice making connections with their vocabulary words. To extend learning, ask your learner to make connections with each word as they play The Name Game. Students will also practice citing evidence to answer questions about a nonfiction text. Remind your learner to go back to the text to cite evidence and encourage them to practice finding evidence in other nonfiction texts.
4	36.4 Maria’s Goodbye	To extend your learner’s practice using commas in friendly letters, ask your child to write a friendly letter to someone, using commas correctly. Remind your learner to include the date (using commas correctly), a greeting, body, and closing. Mail the letter and see if the person writes back!
5	36.5 Maria's Goodbye	Students will practice citing evidence to answer questions about texts using two nonfiction texts from the last two lessons. To extend understanding with your learner, find two fiction or nonfiction texts on the same topic. After reading the texts together, ask your child to cite evidence to answer questions you ask them.
