Module Overview:

In this module, students will learn about the letter Zz. They will practice their sight words, spelling words, and z words. They will also read the weekly story and record an oral retell. Lastly, they will learn about homonyms.

  • As your student reads “I Can Be That!” ask them the following questions: What are the things the boy says he can be? What are the things the boy gets? Draw a picture of your favorite part of the story and write about it using your sight words.
  • While your student is practicing writing the letter Zz have them say out loud how they are writing the letter.
  • During Independent Reading time have your Kindergartner read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.
2 20.2 Letter Zz
  • Use the sight word flashcards from this lesson daily with your student. Mix them up, show them the words and ask them to read the sight word. Next do not show them the word, but say the word and ask them to spell the word.
  • During Independent Reading time have your Kindergartner read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.

  • As your student practices writing sight words have them spell the words as they write each letter in the word and then read the word when they are done writing it.
  • During Independent Reading time have your Kindergartner read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.
  • Have your student practice spelling their spelling words, say a word and have them spell it.
4 20.4 Letter Zz During Independent Reading time have your Kindergartner read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.
5 20.5 Letter Zz Don’t forget to have your student complete their independent reading log and assignment and submit it at the Independent Reading Assignment lesson dropbox. You may have to help them fill it out. Remember to submit their work for the week in the Module 20 Weekly Written Work Letter Zz lesson dropbox.
