Module 28: Maple Leaves and Machines- Science 1B - Course Guide


Module Overview:

In this module, students will describe the characteristics of maple trees including the changing colors of the leaves, the parts of the tree, and how the tree changes during each season. Students will also define a force as a push or pull and simple machines as tools to make pushing and pulling easier, as well as identifying six simple machines.

Take some time to apply what your student is learning to the real world. Suggested outings are below.

1 Take your student on a walk to the playground, observing trees common to your region. You may want to point out the characteristics of deciduous trees, evergreen or tropical trees, or succulents. Discuss if they change throughout the year and why they do or do not undergo changes. You can identify simple machines on flagpoles, curb cuts, and simple garden equipment.
