Module Guiding Questions:

When a student starts a lesson ask them questions to check for prior knowledge and understanding and to review concepts being taught. At the end of the lesson ask the questions again to see if their answer changes.

Lesson Title Question
Science 1 Review I
  1. What do you know about being a scientist?
Science 1 Review II
  1. What do you remember about the engineering design cycle?

Module Video Questions:

When a student watches a video take time to ask them questions about what they watched. Suggested questions for the videos in this module are listed here. Suggestion: Have the student watch the entire video first all the way through. Then have them watch the video a second time, as they watch it pause the video and ask the questions.

Lesson Title Video Question

  1. What causes the seasons?
  2. What body of water do you see in the photo?
  3. What are the four basic needs of all animals?
  4. What is the largest bird in the world?
  5. Where does it live?

  • What is the main idea?
  • What are three things new you learned?
  • How does this book relate to what you are learning about?

2 The Most Magnificent Thing Ashley Spires
3 Engineer It! From Idea to Awesome JEHT Publishing

Module Outing:

Take some time to apply what your student is learning to the real world. Suggested outings are below.

# Outing
1 Take your student to a science center or nature preserve for the day. Allow them to speak with staff about problems some animals have. Encourage them to ask follow up questions and go through the planning phase of the Engineering Design Cycle to try to solve the problem.
