Module 9: The Letter Cc- Language Arts K - Course Guide
Module Overview:
In this module, learners will explore the letter Cc, focusing on its sound and correct letter formation. Using proper mouth formation, they will produce the /k/ sound and apply phonemic awareness skills by blending onset and rime in spoken words. Learners will strengthen their decoding skills by applying their knowledge of letter-sound relationships to read a decodable book with fluency. Vocabulary development continues as learners identify the meaning of new words and recognize high-frequency words such as “can,” “am,” and “and.” Learners will also build comprehension by identifying the problem and solution in a story and will practice using an exclamation mark correctly in writing. Throughout the module, learners will integrate reading, writing, and phonics skills to become more confident and independent readers.

Learning Coach Notes:
| Lesson # | Lesson Title | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 9.1 Letter Cc | In this module, students will learn the letter Cc. It is important for your learner to know how to pronounce this phoneme and where it belongs on the Sound Wall. The phoneme for the letter Cc we are learning this week is /k/ because it makes the same sound as the /k/ phoneme. Encourage your learner to think of words that begin with the letter Cc and /k/ phoneme. As your child learns new Words of the Week, be on the lookout for them in books you read, on signs while driving, and at the grocery store. Reinforce the new vocabulary words by using them throughout the week. |
| 2 | 9.2 Letter Cc | Your child will build upon what was learned yesterday. Today, your child will use some of the skills and concepts to practice. Your child will also be introduced to new concepts, such as the onset and the rime of a word. Be sure to reinforce that this is different from rhyming. The onset is the first sound in the word before the vowel. The rime is the vowel and everything after it. Helping your child learn to recognize the onset and the rime helps give them the tools needed to become a reader! |
| 3 | 9.3 Letter CC | Students will continue practicing new skills this week. Help your learner build on their growing knowledge by extending activities when interest allows. If your child enjoys the tic-tac-toe game, incorporate other letter sounds into the game to review previously learned sounds once your child has mastered the /k/ sound. If your learner enjoys creating new words by changing the ending sound, extend the activity by having your child change the beginning sound or middle sound in words to write and create new words. Additional time practicing these skills solidifies your learner’s mastery of them. |
| 4 | 9.4 Letter Cc | As your learner continues to practice their new skills this week, provide independence so that they can demonstrate understanding. Reinforce the skills and content already learned by using the Words of the Week Book to practice reading all the words learned so far. Continue practicing blending onsets and rimes. Verbally give your learner the onset and rime of words and ask your child to blend them into a word. |
| 5 | 9.5 Letter Cc | Your learner will demonstrate their understanding of this week’s concepts and skills through interactives, videos, and hands-on activities. Allow your child independence in completing the activities in this lesson. Encourage your learner to practice reading the Letter Cc Book independently. Today, they will show mastery of the skills they learned this week. |
