Module 26: Letter Xx- Language Arts K - Course Guide


Module Overview:

In this module, students will learn to recognize the letter Xx, say its sound, and practice writing it correctly. They will build phonics skills by adding, deleting, and substituting sounds in words and by matching pictures with words to show understanding. Students will also expand their vocabulary and practice reading the high-frequency words come, here, and eat. In writing, they will learn to label the parts of a paragraph, while in research, they will practice gathering information and checking sources for accuracy.

1 26.1 Letter Xx Students will learn the last new letter this week. The letter Xx sound is made by two phonemes /ks/. A strategy to help your learner understand this sound is to think about cymbals clanging together. Using that visual with the sound can help solidify the two-part phoneme for your learner.
2 26.2 Letter Xx If your learner struggles with adding a sound to the beginning of word, practice this skill using colored squares to visually reinforce their learning. As your child learns about resources, it can be helpful to show them examples of nonfiction books, internet sites, and people they know that could teach them about interesting topics.
3 26.3 Letter Xx Students are learning how to manipulate sounds in words by deleting the beginning sound. If you notice your learner struggling with this skill, use the colored squares to provide a visual reinforcement.
4 26.4 Letter Xx Manipulating sounds in a word is a challenging skill. If your learner struggles with this skill, use the slideshow on the Phonemic Awareness page multiple times rather than moving on in the lesson right away. You can also provide your learner with additional words to substitute the beginning sound of for extra practice.
5 26.5 Letter Xx Your learner will have a short review video before demonstrating their understanding of the concepts and skills learned this week. Guide your child through this lesson but refrain from providing answers. Your learner’s teacher will use this lesson to understand how well your child is learning.
