Module 14-Science KA - Course Guide

Module Overview:

In this module, students will explain how forces cause changes in motion. They will assemble a terrarium and plant small, shade-loving plants.

Module Materials:

1 Forces and Movement Have your student try to identify types of simple machines around the house or neighborhood. Have them draw the machines they found and describe how they work in their science notebook.
2 Assemble and Plant a Terrarium After learning about Force in the previous lesson, take some time to discuss with your student what forces you use while assembling a terrarium. Are there any simple machines that would be used, and if so, what kind would they be (for example, shovel or spoon, scissors, bottle cap, etc.)?

Module Guiding Questions:

When a student starts a lesson ask them questions to check for prior knowledge and understanding and to review concepts being taught. At the end of the lesson ask the questions again to see if their answer changes.

Take time to read to your student or have them read aloud to you. Read a different book each day. While reading the book point out concepts being taught. You may purchase these books or find them at your local library. Suggested things to discuss while reading the book:
