Learning Coach Notes:

Lesson # Lesson Title Notes
1 24.1 Letter Qq This week, students will learn a phoneme that has two sounds in it. Encourage your learner to gently place a hand on their throat while producing this sound to make sure their voice is turned off. As your learner reviews Words of the Week and vocabulary words, make note of which words your child struggles with. Spend extra time working with those words this week.
2 24.2 Letter Qq Prompt your learner to think of words that begin with the /kw/ sound independently today. Your child is learning how to distinguish closed syllables from open syllables. Provide a CVC, VC, or CV word and ask your learner to identify the syllable type. Point out open and closed syllables in books you read together. Students will learn about antonyms today. Encourage your learner to act out the action words to gain further understanding of antonyms.
3 24.3 Letter Qq Provide your learner with greater independence in completing interactive activities as the week goes on. This will help them discover what skills they have not fully understood. Take note of any Words of the Week your learner has not mastered yet and practice those words daily. Save the notecards created today for the next lesson. Use the colored squares to count phonemes and encourage your child to practice writing the word to gain mastery. As your learner works with shades of meaning words, provide support and help them act out the words to understand the varying levels of intensity.
4 24.4 Letter Qq If your learner has difficulty listening for the beginning sound /kw/, encourage them to finger-stretch the sounds in words. If your learner struggles to hear the difference between open and closed syllables, tell them that open syllables can be held (like soooooo). Closed syllables have an ending that closes the word quickly (like did). Encourage your child to act out the antonyms to gain a deeper understanding of opposites.
5 24.5 Letter Qq Your learner will have a short review video before demonstrating their understanding of the concepts and skills learned this week. Guide your learner through this lesson but refrain from providing answers. Your child’s teacher will use this lesson to understand how well your child is learning.
