Learning Coach Notes:

Lesson # Lesson Title Notes
1 29.1- Double Consonants
  • Your student will need to have a research topic chosen, three questions written, and two questions researched and answered for the writing assignment this week.
  • As your student reads “Tess is a Mess” ask them the following questions: Who is Tess? What types of things does Tess do? In their Language Arts notebook have your student draw a picture of their favorite part of the poem and write about it using their spelling and sight words.
  • Use the sight word flashcards daily with your student. Mix them up, show them the words and ask them to read the sight word. Next do not show them the word but say the word and ask them to spell the word.
  • During Independent Reading time have your First Grader read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.
2 29.2- Double Consonants
  • There will be no formal handwriting worksheets assigned during this semester. However, if you believe your student still needs more work or practice with handwriting, please visit the Teacher Guide for handwriting resources to implement on your own.
  • Your student will be playing Sight Word Concentration. Have him/her follow the directions below to play the game. 1. Write each sight on two separate index cards. 2. Mix them up and lay the cards face down on the floor or table. 3. Start by flipping one card over and reading the sight word. 4. Now, try to find the match to the word that you flipped over. If you get the match, take those cards out of the game and keep playing. If you do not get the match, turn both cards over and keep trying. 5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you match all of your words. 6. Be sure to read each word every time you flip a card over. Have your student play this game several times for extra practice.
3 29.3- Double Consonants
  • Your student will be practicing spelling while blowing bubbles.
  • When reading "Tess is a Mess" in this lesson have your student write the double consonant words that are in the story in their Language Arts notebook.
  • During Independent Reading time have your First Grader read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.
  • Use the sight word flashcards daily with your student. Mix them up, show them the words and ask them to read the sight word. Next do not show them the word but say the word and ask them to spell the word.
4 29.4- Double Consonants
  • Your student will need to have a research topic chosen, three questions written and two questions researched and answered for the writing assignment this week. After your student gets his/her research answers back from his/her teacher, be sure to save this worksheet for future writing assignments.
  • During Independent Reading time have your First Grader read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.

5 29.5- Double Consonants Don’t forget to have your student complete their independent reading log and assignment and submit it at the Independent Reading Assignment lesson dropbox. You may have to help them fill it out. Remember to submit their work for the week in the Module 29 Weekly Written Work Phonics of the Week: double consonants lesson dropbox.
