Learning Coach Notes:

Lesson # Lesson Title Notes
1 31.1- au and aw
  • Your student will need to have an entire research paragraph written for the revision assignment in writing this week.
  • As your student reads “Grow, Stawberries” ask them the following question: How does a strawberry grow? In their Language Arts notebook have your student draw a picture showing the steps involved in the growth of a strawberry and write about it using their spelling and sight words.
  • Use the sight word flashcards daily with your student. Mix them up, show them the words and ask them to read the sight word. Next do not show them the word but say the word and ask them to spell the word.
  • During Independent Reading time have your First Grader read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.
2 31.2- au and aw
  • There will be no formal handwriting worksheets assigned during this semester. However, if you believe your student still needs more work or practice with handwriting, please visit the Teacher Guide for handwriting resources to implement on your own.
  • Your student will be practicing his/her sight words by writing them in shaving cream during this lesson. Help your student find a clean flat surface and spray out some shaving cream on the surface. Spread it out into a layer your student can write in with his/her finger. Have him/her practice this week’s sight words at least 5 times each. Each time s/he writes a sight word, ask him/her to read it out loud.
  • During Independent Reading time have your First Grader read the story they chose out loud so that you can hear errors and correct them if needed.
