Module 8: The Letter Bb- Language Arts K - Course Guide

Module Overview:

In this module, learners will focus on the letter Bb, practicing correct formation and producing the /b/ sound using proper mouth formation. They will identify ending sounds in words and use their understanding of letter-sound relationships to decode and fluently read a decodable book. Learners will expand vocabulary by exploring both new and review words, and they will recognize high-frequency words such as "be," "big," and "you." They will also explore sentence punctuation by identifying and correctly using a question mark. Comprehension skills will be strengthened as learners summarize the beginning, middle, and end of a story and identify alliteration through engaging texts. Throughout the module, learners will integrate foundational reading and writing skills to build fluency and confidence.

Learning Coach Notes:

Lesson # Lesson Title Notes
1 8.1 Letter Bb The new letter of the week is the letter Bb. As your child learns how to make this sound, coach them closely so they do not add an additional sound onto the phoneme. A common mistake is to make the sounds /b/ /u/ when pronouncing the /b/ sound. Encourage your child to only produce the /b/ phoneme and stop it right after the sound. Use the Words of the Week to continue practicing this new letter.
2 8.2 Letter Bb Help your learner show their understanding of the direction words beginning, middle, and end with the activity on the first page. After your learner lines up their toys or stuffed animals, say a direction word (beginning, middle, or end) and ask your learner to point to the object in that position. Continue practicing until they show solid understanding of the words.
3 8.3 Letter Bb As your learner continues working with the letter Bb this week, provide more opportunities for independent practice to see how well they are learning. When students try on their own, you can see what they still need help with. Provide assistance before your learner becomes frustrated. Striving toward more independence in learning will create the opportunity for greater learning. Encourage your child to challenge himself or herself when completing today’s lesson.
4 8.4 Letter Bb In this lesson, your learner will continue to practice the skills learned this week. Encourage your child to deepen their understanding by producing words that alliterate with a word you give them. If your child is ready for an ending-sound challenge, provide two-syllable words (such as forget) and ask your learner to identify the ending sound. Continue to use the vocabulary words learned this week to reinforce their meaning.
5 8.5 Letter Bb Today, your learner will demonstrate the skills that they have been learning all week. Encourage your child to complete the interactives and answer the questions as independently as possible. If your learner is ready for a challenge, ask them to read the Letter Bb Book. You could also read the book aloud. Track the words with your finger and pause on the Words of the Week to allow your learner to read those words.
