Module Guiding Questions:

When a student starts a lesson ask them questions to check for prior knowledge and understanding and to review concepts being taught. At the end of the lesson ask the questions again to see if their answer changes.

Lesson Title Question
The Five Senses
  1. How can you use your five senses to learn more about the world around you?
Behavior of Ants
  1. Why do ants live in colonies?
Types of Birds
  1. What are the characteristics of birds?

Module Video Questions:

When a student watches a video take time to ask them questions about what they watched. Suggested questions for the videos in this module are listed here. Suggestion: Have the student watch the entire video first all the way through. Then have them watch the video a second time, as they watch it pause the video and ask the questions.

Lesson Title Video Question
The Five Senses The Five Senses
  1. What are your five senses?
  2. As you watch this video write down in your Science notebook 3 things you learned about each of your five senses.
Behavior of Ants The Ant
  1. What is the ant's mouth like?
  2. What do the antennae help the ant do?
  3. Where does an ant live?
  4. What are the different jobs ants can have?
  5. In their Science notebook, have your student draw a picture of an ant and list 5 things they learned about ants.
Types of Birds A First Look at Birds
  1. What characteristics do birds have?
  2. Draw a picture of a bird in your Science Notebook and label its characteristics.

Module Suggested Read Aloud Books:

Take time to read to your student or have them read aloud to you. Read a different book each day. While reading the book point out concepts being taught. You may purchase these books or find them at your local library. Suggested things to discuss while reading the book:

  • What is the main idea?
  • What are three things new you learned?
  • How does this book relate to what you are learning about?

Take some time to apply what your student is learning to the real world. Suggested outings are below.

# Outing
1 Take your student to a local park and have them sit at a bench and record in their science notebook all of the things they observe using their five senses. Have them look for birds and draw and write about the different birds they see. See if you can find an ant hill and observe the activity by it.
