They will read and spell words, including CVC words that begin with Yy, and recognize the high-frequency words yes, yellow, and our. Students will expand their vocabulary and practice substituting sounds to make new words. They will also use common suffixes, such as -ed, -s, -ful, and -less, to help determine the meaning of unknown words. In reading, students will learn to identify authors and illustrators and their roles, while in writing, they will use drawing, dictating, and/or writing to share factual information about a topic.

Learning Coach Notes:
| Lesson # | Lesson Title | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 25.1 Letter Yy | Have your learner use the video to hear and see the /y/ sound before they attempt saying the sound. It is easy to incorrectly add an additional sound to the end of the phoneme by saying /yuh/. Encourage your learner to make this as a quick sound. To help reinforce the /y/ phoneme, tell your child two words and ask them to identify the word that begins with the /y/ sound. Use the new vocabulary words throughout the week to reinforce your learner’s understanding. |
| 2 | 25.2 Letter Yy | The new skill students will learn today is substituting sounds. This is a more difficult phonemic awareness skill and will take additional practice to master. If your learner has difficulty today, continue to practice this skill using their colored squares. You can make it more fun using colored candies (blue, yellow, and red) instead of the colored squares used in the lesson. Practice with this skill is necessary for students to master it. |
| 3 | 25.3 Letter Yy | As your learner practices the skill of substituting sounds with the Treasure Chest interactive game, have the colored squares ready to use as visuals. These squares can help your child see which sound in the word is being substituted. Continue to reinforce and use the Words of the Week and vocabulary words to help your learner master them. Remember to use the Sounds Book and Words of the Week book weekly to provide additional practice. |
| 4 | 25.4 Letter Yy | Today, students will continue to practice substituting the beginning sound in words. Later in the lesson, they will be introduced to substituting the ending sound in words. Use the color squares to help your learner have a visual representation of this auditory skill. Continue to reinforce the meaning of the suffixes your child is learning by using words with suffixes throughout the week. As words with suffixes connect to everyday life, ask your learner to use the suffix and the root word to figure out the meaning of the word. |
| 5 | 25.5 Letter Yy | Your learner will have a short review video before demonstrating their understanding of the concepts and skills learned this week. Guide your child through this lesson but refrain from providing answers. Your learner’s teacher will use this lesson to understand how well your child is learning. |
